Whenever you are advertising your businesses or handing out marketing materials, you should always try to gather as much information as possible about the people you are meeting. Many business owners hand out flyers, brochures, business cards and other promotional materials hoping that the people whom they hand it to would make the first move and call them when they need their products/services.
No, this is a wrong approach – you should always make the first move. A large percentage of people that you hand your marketing materials to would forget that your business exists as soon as they get the material. Some wouldn’t even care to read it; I mean, how many times have we found business flyers in the waste bin?
That’s right; a lot of people don’t care at first until you can win their attention.
This strategy will help you achieve two things – it would help you avoid wasting your marketing resources on people who are not remotely interested in your products/services. It would also help you to establish contact afterward with those who seem interested in your products/services.
So always make sure you get the emails or phone numbers of the people that get your marketing materials. If they are unwilling to give you their email address or phone number, it probably means that they are not interested and those are the type of people who dump your promotional materials in waste bins.
Get their phone numbers and emails, and then start to discuss with them later. You don’t have to be too aggressive – just something that would keep your business in their minds so that whenever they do need your products/services, you would be the first on their minds.
